Crossplay Tile Distribution

All 104 tiles, drawn to scale. Sort by rarity to see which letters you will only meet once in a game — and which ones you will be swimming in.

Reading the shape of the bag

The distribution is the inverse of the value table: the letters worth one point are the ones you will draw constantly, and the ten-pointers appear once each per game. That is not an accident — it is what keeps the average turn scoring in the twenties rather than the sixties.

What it means for your rack

  • Vowels are unavoidable. E, A, I and O together make up a large fraction of the bag, which is why vowel-heavy racks are common and why knowing the vowel dumps matters.
  • The singles are events. One J, one K, one Q, one X, one Z. When you draw one, plan around it — you will not get a second chance.
  • Blanks are the swing tile. Two in the whole bag. If neither has appeared by the late game, expect one to arrive and keep a rack that can use it.

Tile tracking, briefly

You do not need to track everything. Track four things: the blanks, the S tiles, the high-value singles, and the vowel-to-consonant balance of what is left. That is enough to know whether to hold for a sweep or take the points in front of you.

A note on accuracy

These counts are a documented model rather than an announced specification. Every value lives in one configuration file that the solver, the scorer and this page all read from, so if official counts are published, correcting them here corrects them everywhere.

Common questions

How many tiles are in the bag?

104 in this model, including 2 blanks. Crossplay does not publish an official breakdown, so this is a documented model tuned to the published letter values — cheap letters common, expensive letters rare. It lives in one configuration file and can be corrected in a single place if official counts are confirmed.

Why does the distribution matter?

It tells you what is still coming. If both blanks and four of the five S tiles are already on the board, your chances of a sweep have dropped sharply and you should take points now rather than hold a rack.

How do I track tiles during a game?

Use the unseen-tiles panel in the solver. It starts from the full distribution, subtracts everything visible on the board and (optionally) your own rack, and shows you what is left in the bag and your opponent’s hands.
