Reading the results properly
The finder sorts by length because longer words are usually worth more — but not always. A four-letter word with a J on a triple letter square beats a six-letter word made of one-pointers most of the time. The number beside each word is its face value: the tiles alone, before any premium squares.
Two habits pay off. First, scan the shortest lists too — the two- and three-letter words are where parallel plays come from, and they score two or three words at once. Second, when you have all seven tiles available, check the seven-letter group first: a sweep is worth 40 points on top of the word, which almost always outranks anything shorter.
When your rack is stuck
- Too many vowels? Look for words starting with the awkward ones — AA, AE, AI, OE, OI all exist and dump a vowel for points.
- Q with no U? There is a short list that saves you, and it is worth memorising all of it.
- All consonants? Check the three-letter group; many consonant clusters have an unexpected home there.

Common questions
How is this different from the solver?
The word finder only knows your letters, so it lists everything those letters can spell. The solver also knows the board, so it can play through tiles already down, form cross-words, and tell you what each play is actually worth on real squares.
How do I use a blank?
Type ? in place of the blank. The finder will substitute any letter for it. Remember that a blank always scores zero, so the face values shown here drop accordingly when you play it.
Why can I not play every word it shows?
Because a word also has to fit the board. It needs somewhere to attach, every letter it crosses has to form a valid word too, and it has to fit between the tiles already there. That is what the full solver is for.
