Words With Friends Screenshot Solver

Upload a screenshot instead of retyping a board. The grid is found, the tiles are read, and anything the reader was unsure about is outlined for you to confirm before it solves.

Find the highest-scoring move you can play right now.

Processed locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

Board size is 15 by 15.

No square

Enter the tiles already on the board, add your rack, then press Find best moves. Everything runs on your device.

How the reading works

The image is searched for a 15-by-15 lattice of evenly spaced cells — the board is found by its geometry rather than by looking for a particular colour, which is what lets a whole-phone screenshot work as well as a cropped one. Once the grid is located, each square is measured against the board’s own dominant empty colour to decide whether a tile is sitting on it, and the letter on each occupied square is matched against rendered glyphs at several weights and faces.

Every square gets a confidence score. Anything below the threshold is outlined on the board rather than quietly accepted, because a board that is 95% right and silent is worse than one that says which 5% to check.

What this cannot promise yet

The pipeline was tuned against a different game — its tile colours, its fonts, its layout — and measured against real screenshots of it. There are no Words With Friends screenshots in this repository to measure against, so the thresholds here are inherited rather than fitted. It may read a board perfectly; it may need a dozen corrections. Everything the correction UI does is there because recognition is never perfect, and on this game that matters more than usual until real samples exist.

If it cannot find a board at all it says so and leaves you on the manual editor rather than pretending. Nothing about the flow traps you: the manual solver is the same tool with the same results.

After the board is right

Type your seven tiles, press Find best moves, and every legal play comes back ranked. The board you corrected stays put, so you can play the move, take another screenshot next turn, and repeat — or press Apply move to write the play in and carry on from there.

Common questions

What should I upload?

A normal screenshot of your game, taken however your phone takes them. The whole screen is fine — the board is found within it, and the status bar, header and chat around it are ignored.

How accurate is it?

Honestly: unproven on Words With Friends. The recognition was built and measured against a different game’s screenshots, and this one has its own tile art and colours. Every square it is unsure about is outlined for you to confirm, and anything it reads wrongly takes one tap to fix. Treat the first few boards as something to check rather than trust.

Does my screenshot get uploaded?

No. The image is decoded and read in your browser and never leaves the device. Nothing about it — not the picture, not the board it produced — reaches analytics or any third party.

It read the board wrongly. Now what?

Tap the square and type the right letter. Squares the reader was unsure about are outlined, so start with those. If a board comes out badly enough that fixing it is slower than typing it, the manual solver is one link away and loses nothing.

Can it read my rack too?

It tries, and it fills the rack in when it succeeds, at which point the solve runs on its own. If the rack comes back wrong or empty, type it — seven letters is quick.
