Words With Friends Dictionary Checker

Check a word, or a list of them, against the reference dictionary this site solves with.

Source: loading…. Word validity is checked against an open reference dictionary, which may differ from the official Crossplay lexicon. Try the two-letter list for the words that come up most.

Which dictionary this is

An open, publicly available word list built for word games, plus a small documented supplement of modern short words the base list predates. It is not the Words With Friends dictionary, which is Zynga’s and not ours to copy.

In practice the two agree on the overwhelming majority of words and disagree at the edges: recent slang, some proper-noun-adjacent entries, and a handful of two- and three-letter words. If the game accepts something this rejects, that is the reason — and the reverse happens too, which is worth knowing before you spend a turn on an obscure play.

Why an approximate list is still useful

Because the words that decide games are not the marginal ones. The value of a solver is finding the parallel play that scores forty points using words you already know, not unearthing a word you would not dare play anyway. Disagreements at the edges rarely change which move is best; when they do, the next move down the list is usually within a few points.

If a properly licensed word list becomes available, swapping it in changes one configuration entry and nothing else — the solver, the scoring and every page here read the dictionary through the same interface.

Common questions

Is this the official Words With Friends word list?

No. It is an open reference dictionary. It agrees with the game on the overwhelming majority of words and differs at the edges, mostly in short and modern entries.

Why was my word rejected?

Either it is not in this list, or it is spelled differently than you expect. Rejection here is not proof the game would reject it.

Can I check several words at once?

Yes. Type or paste them separated by spaces or commas and each is checked separately.
